Profile
Organizational History The Urban League of Rochester, an affiliate of the National Urban League, received its affiliation in 1965. This affiliate serves the citizens of Rochester and Monroe County, and is highly regarded and valued as an institution by community leadership. Our Programs & Initiatives The Urban League of Rochester is the city’s premier community organization in advancing equal opportunities on behalf of African Americans and other minority groups through programs and initiatives in education, youth homelessness, mentoring, housing, workforce development, human services, cultural and social development among many others. Through its strong partnership with corporate and civic leaders the affiliate serves as the liaison between these entities and the community. The affiliate is served by a 27-member Board of Directors comprised of private business and representatives from Corporate America. The key volunteer group (Urban League Guild) contributes to advancing the League’s mission. The Guild is comprised of established community members who donate their time and support. The Guild members deliver services that extend public understanding and community awareness, help to develop the leadership skills of ordinary individuals and engage them in local community issues, engage in fundraising activities and promote goodwill on behalf of the Urban League of Rochester. Considered the heart and soul of the Urban League Movement, Guilders contribute thousands of volunteer hours annually and play a pivotal role in connecting the Urban League to communities.
